Vehicles & In-Camp Parking
Our Traffic and Parking team wants to help you with all of your parking, RV and car camping questions. Please read the information below carefully.
Parking Passes & Guidelines
All vehicles at YOUtopia, with the exception of motorcycles, must have a parking pass. There will be passes for RVs and cars.
RV PASSES
An RV is defined as any vehicle, independently or when towing another vehicle or trailer, that is bigger than a camper van or cab-over pickup truck. RVs will be accommodated with the purchase of an RV pass. RV passes do not include an RV drop. There are a limited number of passes available for RV’s or trailers and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis until we sell out. RV FAQs

- Class A, Class C, travel trailers longer than feet 20 ft (not including tongue) require an RV Pass
- Class B – longer than 20 ft require an RV pass
NO RV PASSES WILL BE SOLD AT THE GATE.
CAR PASSES
Vehicles that are the same size or smaller than a camper van or cab-over pickup truck are covered by a car pass. This ticket admits one vehicle (not an RV or motorcycle) to park within the venue, either with a camp or in open-camping. There are a limited number of passes and we strongly encourage you to carpool when possible.
- Class B – 20 ft and under can use car pass
MOTORCYCLES
People riding in on motorcycles will be allowed to have their motorcycle in their camp, and will not be required to park their motorcycle in the parking area. IMPORTANT: your motorcycle must remain in your camp throughout the event.
In-Camp Parking
This year, cars will be allowed to park within your camp. If you are bringing a car, you must have an appropriate vehicle pass for it.
If you have an RV, you must have the RV pass visibly placed on your vehicle. RVs have one designated RV parking area but can also park in any spot marked for open camping. If you park elsewhere, please be conscious to park your RV away from the roadway. If your RV is an integral part of your art or camp infrastructure, you will be getting approval from our Placement Team. You can contact them at placement@sdyoutopia.com.
In-camp parking will operate on a first come, first served basis, but please be mindful of leaving space for other camps and campers. There will be overflow-parking areas if spacing is limited.
All vehicles staying in the camping areas need to park away from the road. Please place the interactive areas toward the front of the camp. This will ensure that YOUtopia stays engaging and fun for all.

The Placement Team is extremely excited with all the changes and opportunities our new desert location opens up for all you RV/Trailer life lovers! Please read on to learn the in and outs of bringing your RV to YOUtopia.
What does YOUtopia consider an “RV”?
- RV denotes any mobile and/or hard – sided vehicular structure you plan to sleep, eat, party and generally live in during the event. This includes; RVs, travel trailers/fifth wheels/toy haulers/etc
- Camper vans and Cab over campers on a pickup truck are NOT considered an RV so you will just need the standard car pass to park your vehicle.
- Class A, Class C, travel trailers longer than feet 20 ft (not including tongue) require an RV Pass
- Class B – longer than 20 ft require an RV Pass
- Class B – 20 ft and under can use Car Pass
What’s different this year?
- RV fee is $100
- This year – there will be a dedicated “RV only Area” in open camping.
- There will be NO Water, electric or sewer available – please plan to be radically self reliant. There will be NO water fill or pumping trucks roaming the city.
Do I have to park anywhere special?
There will be two RV parking options
- Designated “RV only Areas”
- Within your Theme/Sound Camp boundaries if it is an integral part of your art or infrastructure and has been approved by the Placement team.

Will there be generator hours?
- There are none planned at this time – that is why all you RV’ers get to camp together!

Most of my friends are camping in tents...can they camp in the RV area or can I camp in general open camping with my RV?
- The short answer is “no” – we’re trying something new this year
- The long answer is…”yes” – if you would like to gather with all your friends and form your very own Theme Camp you can all be together – we know you’re amazing and your theme camp would be awesome!
- Apply to be a Theme Camp by filling out the Theme Camp & Sound Camp Placement Application. The deadline for Theme Camp & Sound Camp Placement is May 1, 2023 at 11:59pm.
Will I be able to fill my fresh water tanks on the way into and/or dump my holding tanks on the way out of YOUtopia?
This site does not offer those options – you will need to plan accordingly. There are places nearby on the way in and out of the event that offer these services.
Safety Third - Right?
- All RVs should be in good working order so as to not spontaneously combust.
- RVs must have appropriate fire suppression means. Ideally one ABC fire extinguisher located within the living area and one placed in direct reach of the generator.
- Gas lines should be tested and in usable shape. Propane bottles will ideally be sheltered from direct sunlight.
So since we’re in the desert and there’s nothing around and are we shirking the whole LNT (Leave No Trace) thing?
- Um – NO!
- It would be ideal if your RV was completely free from leaks of any kind (oil, antifreeze, gray/black water, battery acid…etc). We would love for no toxic substances to even get to the ground out there!
- Life is not always ideal so please check your RV for any leaks and come up with a solid plan of mitigation…staked down trays with absorbent items (fancy schmancy heavy duty absorbent pads, clay cat litter, old carpet scraps…) to catch leaks are awesome.
- Having a bucket and shovel to remove any contaminated soil and take it home with you would also be awesome…
- However you decide to mitigate any leaks is up to you–just please know what to expect and have a plan to LNT.
